Returning a found item from China by international courier
Finding an item and being able to ship it are separate questions. A carrier accepting a similar parcel elsewhere does not establish acceptance from China to your destination.
Ask about the exact item and route
Provide the origin, destination country and postcode, item description, quantity, weight and dimensions. Disclose installed or loose batteries, liquids and other sensitive contents. Confirm the current route with the carrier; destination rules and service availability can change.
Treat electronics carefully
Tell the carrier the device model and battery condition before packing. DHL says damaged, defective or recalled lithium batteries are not accepted in its network. Do not conceal a battery, dismantle it yourself to evade rules or describe electronics as ordinary clothing.
Prepare accurate paperwork
Ask which customs invoice, value evidence and recipient details are needed. State that it is a returned personal item only if true; this does not automatically make it duty-free. Never declare zero value or call it a gift merely to avoid charges. Ask the destination authority or carrier about applicable relief.
Agree on cost and evidence
Separate collection, packing, freight, insurance and potential destination charges in the quote. Confirm coverage limits, tracking and what happens after refusal or return. Photograph permitted external condition and packing without exposing private data. Do not pay a collection service on the assumption that shipment is already approved.
