Lost your wallet or bank cards in China
A wallet search and account protection should happen together. Do not leave a bank card active merely because a venue thinks it may turn up.
Lock or report missing cards
Use your bank's trusted app or its independently verified contact details. Review transactions and report unfamiliar activity promptly. Ask the issuer how to distinguish a temporary lock from cancellation and replacement; do not assume a recovered card can be reused after cancellation.
Make a private inventory
List the wallet's material, color, damage and contents. Separate passports, driving licences, bank cards and cash so each issuer can be contacted appropriately. For matching, offer a few non-public details; never place full card numbers, PINs or security codes in a public post.
Find a way to pay safely
Ask your issuer or card network what emergency assistance is available in your situation. Visa's service is an official option for eligible Visa cardholders, but approval, delivery and identity requirements vary. Do not promise yourself immediate cash or rely on strangers offering to exchange money.
Report and document the loss
Send the relevant venue or operator the date, location and description. Preserve report numbers and receipts for any insurer, checking its requirements directly. If already abroad, secure the cards now and arrange collection of the remaining contents only after ownership is verified.
