Lost your phone in China: protect it while searching
Treat this as two parallel tasks: protect your digital life and report the physical phone. Finding a location on a map does not prove who has it.
Use your own device account
From a trusted device, open Apple's Find My or Google's Find Hub through the official service. Where supported and previously configured, mark the phone lost or secure it. Availability depends on settings, connectivity and device support; no location result does not prove the phone is gone forever.
Protect communication and payments
Contact your mobile provider about the SIM and your banks about exposed payment access. Preserve alternative sign-in and recovery options before changing them. Use a family member's reachable number or another phone for callbacks, with their agreement—not just the number inside the lost device.
Build a useful physical report
Save the last-seen time, location timestamp, journey and phone/case description. Keep serial or IMEI information private for a verified ownership check. Share map information with relevant staff or police; do not enter private premises or confront a person based on a map dot.
Watch for false recovery messages
Never disclose a passcode, account password or verification code to a finder. Do not remove the phone from your account because a stranger demands it. Remote erasure has consequences: read the device provider's instructions before deciding, rather than following a recovery agent's directions.
A message you can send in Chinese
Replace the brackets with your details. Share only what is necessary through a verified channel. This is an enquiry, not a letter of authorization.
您好,我遗失的手机为[品牌、型号、颜色、保护壳特征],最后见到的位置及时间为[信息]。请回复[另一部可接听电话/邮箱]。我可以通过安全方式提供所有权证明,但不会提供密码或验证码。Official references
