Lost property at a Chinese airport terminal
First confirm the airport's full name and terminal. A city can have more than one airport; a metro station, aircraft and terminal may have different lost-property offices.
Pin down the last location
Write down the date, China local time, terminal, gate, security lane, shop or restroom. Keep boarding passes and receipts. If the item was taken aside during screening rather than forgotten, ask security about its disposition instead of assuming it entered lost and found.
Choose the right desk
For a terminal loss, use the airport's own website and service desk. For an aircraft cabin loss, contact the operating airline. For a taxi or airport train, report to that transport operator. Ask the first desk to identify a transfer destination if the item was handed elsewhere.
Allow for registration delays
No online result is not proof that nothing was handed in. Submit a clear description and ask when to follow up, keeping the same reference. Do not make repeated inconsistent reports or publicly post passport numbers to improve matching.
Confirm before collecting
Request confirmation of the holding office, reference, ownership checks and deadline. Airport procedures differ, including for food and valuables. If you have left China, check representative collection and shipping separately before paying or sending someone to the airport.
